Behaviour change through social

Social media and behaviour change

The internet is now inherently personal, social and editable – our experience of it is shaped by the communities we participate in, and in the content and data we create.

These factors make digital platforms powerful tools for influencing behaviour for the better.

We know that what we see our friends, and other people like us, saying or doing – our perception of the social norm – has a huge impact on our attitudes, choices and behaviour.

Equally, the feedback that we get, from tracking our own behaviour – whether that’s our energy consumption, exercise habits or charity donations – especially when framed in a social context, can influence the choices we make.

At NixonMcInnes, we live and breath the internet, and we understand people. We’re digital ‘social marketers’ (the discipline of using marketing tools and techniques to influence behaviour for social good), and we can help you understand how to create the positive change you want to see, using digital tools, in a measurable way.

How we can help you

  • understand your audience in the context of their behaviour and online lives
  • design and deliver integrated digital and social media behaviour change campaigns
  • create impact assessments and evaluation frameworks

How we do it

Our first step is to get a complete understanding of your audience – in the context of their wider lives (socio-demographic groups, media consumption etc) as well as the drivers for problem behaviours and the barriers or ‘competition’ for desired behaviour. We do this by making use of existing studies, tried and trusted traditional market research methods and digital ethnography.

We use this insight to design campaigns that tap into habits of our audience, and frame the issue in a way that resonates with their values and world-view.

Before we launch any campaign or programme, we work closely with our clients to create credible and rigorous evaluation criteria and measurement frameworks to demonstrate impact.
