Training empathy in business: your chance to learn

Following on from our own work at NixonMcInnes, we’re offering training on how to use empathy in your business to create connection and build happier, balanced teams.

My personal experience (read more here) is that these skills are core to building social and emotional intelligence, creating more resilient and balanced individuals, and teams. And because the ideas can be applied in any area of life, it’s also a route to feel more fulfilled in and out of work.

You’ll be led by experienced trainers teaching NVC (Nonviolent Communication) – a communication framework that turns conflict, blame and judgement into connection and understanding.

The training takes place in Brighton on the 17th and 18th of September.
It will be a practical and experiential course, and by the end of it, you will:

  • know the difference between empathy and common ways of communicating with judgement and blame
  • understand how it feels to create an authentic connection
  • have practised using NVC, particularly seeing, hearing and expressing with empathy
  • know the difference between ‘getting to a solution’ and ‘transforming a situation through understanding’
  • be able to use honesty in a way that creates connection rather than conflict
  • be clear on and have practised the key components of NVC, including observations, feelings, needs, requests and empathy.

The trainers are Andy Mason and Sarri Bater. They first shared NVC together in 2005 working with people affected by war and tsunami in Sri Lanka. Since then they have collaborated on projects in Sri Lanka and the Middle East. Sarri trained with Marshall Rosenberg in 2004 whils Andy did the same in 2007.
